Analytics to help you assess quality, relevance, and usefulness. As internet technologies become more advanced and sophisticated, so too do the analytical tools used to track and measure impact. This presentation will introduce a suite of tools and techniques projects can use to inform and improve effectiveness of their work.

Elizabeth Kozleski, Director, NIUSI-LeadScape
NIUSI-Leadscape uses Web 2.0 technologies to build interactive Web sites that provide working platforms for principals within and across schools. Creating new ways of using and interacting with data through google maps provides professionals and families with an understanding of what is happening in their schools so that they can choose improvement strategies that address the needs of all students. Wikis, blogs, and social network strategy keep people in touch with others doing the work on the ground.

Pam Winton, Director, National Professional Development Center on Inclusion (NPDCI)
New tools and technologies — blogs, wikis, and YouTube — change the way we communicate and connect. The barriers of geographical distance, scheduling, and reduced travel budgets are being overcome through new ways of forming groups and getting work done. Learn about how two national centers are using these new approaches to engage key stakeholders in building the knowledge base in support of high-quality inclusion and delivery of services in natural environments for young children (0-5).

Interactive and Applied Technology Concurrent Sessions

10:15 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

These seven sessions will be repeated during the 12:45 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. timeslot.

  1. Technology for TA Delivery | Balcony C

Paula Burdette, Director, Project Forum and David Gordon, CAST. Jump Starting a Face-to-Face Meeting with Technology. Presenters share how they have used online technologies to "jump start" the process of a 2-day face-to-face meeting. Taking part in a webinar and online discussion group, participants engaged in the meeting topics and helped shaped the agenda weeks in advance. They got essential background information, shared questions and answers, and debated key terms, policies, and practices. This online "pre-work" made the face-to-face meeting more efficient and productive.

  2. Technology for TA Delivery | Balcony E

Tracy Gray, Director, Center on Implementing Technology in Education (CITEd). Sharing Innovations and Using Technology More Effectively in Delivering TA. The Center for Implementing Technology in Education (CITEd) supports leadership at State and local education agencies to integrate instructional technology for students with special needs to achieve high educational standards. CITEd provides support through the identification of evidence-based practices, innovative online technical assistance tools, professional development, and communities of practice. This session will explore the different uses of technology to deliver TA to meet the diverse needs of teachers, administrators, professional development experts and information technology coordinators. It will offer specific lessons learned over the past four years that highlight the benefits and challenges of using technology in effective and efficient ways to meet the TA needs of diverse audiences.

  3. Technology and Accessibility and Access | Vista Room

Dianne Brooks, Director, PEPNet-Northeast; Elise Knopf, Director, PEPNet-Midwest; Marcia Kolvitz, Director, PEPNet-South; Cathy Mcleod, Director, PEPNet-West. Tools and Strategies for Creating Collaborative Relationships. This session addresses innovative technology tools that facilitate participation in TA delivery to a diverse audience. Strategies include using web-based videoconferencing, real-time telephone conference captioning, online collaboration tools, and addressing accessibility in Webinar / web casting formats. In addition to providing access for individuals with disabilities, these strategies reflect the principles of Universal Design and offer a rich experience for all participants.

  4. Technology for TA Management | Computer Lab (Lobby Level)

Phoebe Gillespie, Director, Personnel Improvement Center, (PIC) and Fred DeMay, PIC Service Provider, State representative and taskforce member from North Dakota. Using an Online Project Management Tool in Technical Assistance. The Personnel Improvement Center, a newly-funded TA&D project at National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE), will demonstrate how they are assisting States to use an online project management tool called Project Pier to manage their work and increase a states' capacity to provide TA to multiple stakeholders. The online tool is free and allows states to: create and manage complex recruitment and retention projects with state-wide taskforces; enhance synergistic communication among multiple players; provide concrete evidence of task completion; and increase transparency of state and local work plans for all stakeholders.

  5. Technology Accessibility and Access | Academy Hall

Diana MTK Autin, Region 1 Parent Technical Assistance Center at the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN), and Mercedes Rosa, Director, Culturally Competent Outreach and Support Project at SPAN. Facilitating Outreach to Underserved Families and Groups using Technology. This workshop will provide an overview of easy-to-use, inexpensive technology tools including tools to ensure that underserved families can participate in technology-based opportunities.
  6. Technology for TA Delivery | Balcony B

Jason Altman, Research Coordinator and Sheryl Lazarus, Research Associate, National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) (and other staff remotely). What If You Gave a Webcast and Nobody Came? This session will discuss what the National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) has learned about how audience, purpose, and eventual use of the information dictate the design of technology-based TA&D. The presenters will share some insights based on their experiences, and demonstrate some of the high and low tech tools they have been using. They will consider how research on adult learning and educational technology help (or do not help), and they will facilitate a group discussion about collective lessons learned.

  7. Technology for TA Communication and Support | Balcony D
    Transcript

Arlene Russell, Co-coordinator, RRC Program, WRRC; Maureen Hawes, Co-coordinator, RRC Program, NCRRC; and Michele Rovins, Director, TACC.
