SEAs in the region requested that MPRRC organize and facilitate teleconference calls for Due Process Hearing Officers in the region to discuss issues unique to hearing officers, share ideas for improving skills, and refine their knowledge of special education law and procedure consistent with OSEP interpretation on legal and substantive issues relevant to a due process hearing.
Identified Goals
Develop a network of due process hearing officers that collaborate and communicate outside teleconference calls, using each other as ongoing resources.
Share individual State issues relevant to due process hearings.
Improve knowledge of IDEA and the Regulations through provision of case law updates and relevant practice updates and relevant practice updates on a regular basis.
Provide an MPRRC-hosted ListServ for Due Process Hearing Officers to post questions or issues for collaborative networking and capacity building.
Provide Continuing Legal Education credit for hearing officer participation in the teleconferences.
