Complaint Investigators Workgroup

Co-Chairs: Elena Gallegos and Lenore Knudtson

Purpose

All SEAs in the region have requested that the MPRRC organize and facilitate teleconference calls for State complaint investigators to discuss and share ideas for improving skills and to improve understanding and clarification of special education law, consistent with OSEP interpretation, on matters that may be the subject of a complaint.

Identified Goals

1. Develop a network of complaint investigators that collaborate and communicate outside teleconference calls.
2. Share individual State complaint investigation procedures and practices.
3. Become familiar with complaint investigation best practices throughout the region.
4. Increase collaboration on legal issues between complaint investigators and MPRRC.
5. Improve access to and knowledge of the IDEA, including relevant OSEP opinions and court decisions.
