Trees of Influences
The Trees of Influences are flow charts (one for Part C indicators, and one for Part B) illustrating relationships of influence among indicators. Originally developed for use in analyzing our states' SPPs, we have used the "Trees of Influences" with our states to illustrate the potential connections and impact of one indicator on others.  Our states have found them helpful in their own analysis of state plans and data, and in planning future improvement strategies. Performance on a single indicator often becomes the focus of improvement efforts, when in fact, to elicit the desired change the effort should be targeted further back in the chain of influences. The document is available in PDF format for Part B and Part C.  (Oct, 2008)

The Western Regional Resource Center hosted a regional meeting for our Part B state directors as well as their respective PTI directors on October 23-24 in Reno. The purpose of the meeting was to review strategies each state is using to roll out and provide training on the new IDEA regulations.

Educating Students with Disabilities in General Education Classrooms: A Summary of the Research
(Alaska Inclusion Document) January, 1998 This review of the research on inclusion was written in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Education. This was developed in response to parents and administrators who asked, "What does the research say about inclusion? Is it a good idea?" This document discusses what inclusion means to practitioners, reviews recent court cases, and summarizes research in the areas of achievement, attitudes, and relationships. Several stories of real kids in real classrooms help to illustrate what the literature seems to be saying - that inclusion is about improving schooling for all students.   We have posted this document in two formats:

  1. Alaska Inclusion document   (Educating Students with Disabilities in General Education Classrooms: A Summary of the Research. This online version  of the document can be read, printed or searched from your web browser. Resources are hotlinked.

  2. Alaska Inclusion (Educating Students with Disabilities in General Education Classrooms: A Summary of the Research)   PDF document.  This Portable Document Format (PDF) version was created to allow for well-formatted printing of the document across platforms. The original formatting (columns, color and callout boxes) has been preserved. Access to this version requires the free Adobe Acrobat reader, which can be downloaded at the   Adobe website.
