About this Community
Interested in finding out how your colleagues in other states are helping youth graduate and achieve their goals after high school? Looking for ways to engage in meaningful conversation with creative and thoughtful education professionals from across the country?  Pressed for time and want quick and easy access to best practices and new ideas?

Communities of Practice provide state special education directors, transition coordinators, educators, parents, and others the kind of networking and professional development opportunities that are usually only available at national conferences. Community members share common goals, problems, and interests to learn from each other and improve results for youth.

The Exiting Part B Community of Practice is for key stakeholders interested in:
• Reducing dropouts
• Increasing graduation rates
• Reducing the gap that exists between the graduation rates for students with  and without disabilities
• Providing successful transitions from high school to postsecondary education, meaningful employment, civic engagement, and successful adult community living.

Community Purpose and Guidelines:
The Exiting Community of Practice exists as a means of sharing among state-level transition professionals and valued partners committed to improving Exiting outcomes for youth with disabilities. We are open to a wide range of information, questions, opinions, requests, and news.

We welcome posts that clearly relate to Exiting issues, and whose purpose is to improve Exiting results for youth. While this may, at times, result in political discussion or endorsement of commercial products, neither of these should be the ongoing theme of posts from an individual. Further, while viewpoints may be critically and vigorously discussed, personal attacks on members of this community are out of bounds. Posts should reflect a professional conversational tone and avoid inflammatory or sensationalized language. The community, in part through the moderators, has the responsibility of establishing, communicating, and enforcing these standards of conduct. Those who violate these standards repeatedly or egregiously can expect to be removed from the list of community members.
