About the Federal Resource Center for Special Education (FRC)

The FRC supports a nationwide technical assistance network to respond to the needs of students with disabilities, especially students from under-represented populations. Through its work with the Regional Resource Centers (RRCs) and the technical assistance networks, the FRC provides a national perspective for establishing technical assistance activities within and across regions by identifying and synthesizing emerging issues and trends.

In addition, the FRC works with the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to plan national conferences of education professionals, with the object of communicating OSEP priorities and promoting positive systemic change in special education programs across the nation.

The FRC is a five-year cooperative agreement between the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.

About Our Network Print E-mail

(click the map to view regional/state information)

The Regional Resource Centers Program provides service to all states as well as the Pacific jurisdictions, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. The six regional program centers are funded by the federal Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to assist state education agencies in the systemic improvement of education programs, practices, and policies that affect children and youth with disabilities. Services offered by the RRC Program include consultation, information services, technical assistance, training, and product development.

Through the RRC Program, the individual RRCs work collaboratively to help states and U.S. jurisdictions identify and address issues across regions and nationally, and to facilitate networking and information-sharing. The RRC Program regularly collaborates with other OSEP-funded Technical Assistance and Dissemination (TA&D) Network centers on conferences, topical workgroups, product development, and other activities.

By working collaboratively with centers in the the larger OSEP-funded Technical Assistance and Dissemination (TA&D) Network, the RRC Program is able to offer clients the benefits of nationwide expertise and high-quality technical assistance.

The beneficiaries of the RRCs' work are children and youth with disabilities and the families and professionals associated with them. Read more...
