FAPE IDEA Summary
This document summarizes of some of the most critical changes affecting children with disabilities and their families in IDEA 2004, focuses on the IEP process, due process, and discipline provisions. How these changes affect our children will depend, at least in part, on how the U.S. Department of Education interprets them through policies and regulations and how they are implemented at the state, district, and school levels. Most of these changes were effective as of July 1, 2005.
